New Treats!

New Treats! Fabric Necklaces, Simple Bags, Floral Change Purses, Bow ties and ELEPHANTS! (Can you guess what I'm most excited about?!) All of these are available in any color, fabric, or style that suits you best. Aren't the elephants just so sugary sweet?! The picture is unclear, but my favorite feature of this little guy is the lining under his ears. This one has sea horses underneath!

All I want for Christmas...

I found this gorgeous tree topper on Anthropologie's website. Isn't it divine? This is exactly the kind of decor I picture stumbling across in Narnia. Oh how I covet you, my Narnia topper!

I have plans to create my own version of this beautiful creature. Suggestions?

Also, I will soon be posting more pictures from the photo shoot in October. Very "Baby Anthropologie." Just you wait!

A Handbag of My Very Own

I went into Karen's the other day with my new purse and she took these photos in her lovely shop. (You should check out her awesomeness on her blog, karengraydesign.typepad.com.) I really can't reiterate enough how excited I am about this Innocent Crush fabric. I just ordered 6 yards of velveteen  from this collection for a gorgeous reproduction vintage dress! Happy Christmas!!

More handbag pictures to come--I just finished a faux Cath Kidston purse with an adorable little ruffle. Sweet for grown ups and little ones, too!

PS Have you seen Amy Butler's new Soul Blossoms collection? I want to make a quilt out of this ASAP! And I've been dreaming up some cute little skirt and blouse ideas...http://www.amybutlerdesign.com/products/

Works in Progress

Hello all!

Here's the low-down on my most recent Little General news:

HANDBAGS! Coming soon for all you women who need something nifty to stash your goods in! I'll have it all: the big, the bad, and the (not so) ugly! AND in all shapes and sizes! I'm currently working on a beauty of a swallow-everything bag for myself. (If you know me, you've observed that I don't use bags unless I can fit in them.) My current obsession is the Anna Maria Horner collection, Innocent Crush, so expect to see a lot of her prints in these works. (Check it out for yourself at www.annamariahorner.blogspot.com.)

CUSTOM HOLIDAY ORDERS: I'm currently accepting orders for the holidays! If you don't see what you want here, send me a note and I'll help you create a one-of-a-kind piece just for YOU! At the moment I'm creating a vintage dress for a long time friend of mine. It's going to be an absolute doll of a dress and I think I'm going to want to keep it for myself! Either way, at least you'll get to see pictures...

BOYS, BOYS, BOYS: I've had several questions/comments concerning boys clothing lately. "I love your stuff, but I only have boys." "Got anything for boys?" The answer is, yes, definitely, I just haven't made them yet...(I grew up with 4 sisters, ok?!?) If you are one of those people who loves what you see but doesn't have a female child to put in it, contact me and I'll make something equally adorable but not-so-sweet for your little man!

Lastly, thank you all for your patience. I know this blog is hardly fantastic, but as I get the hang of this it'll get better. And I'll have more pictures! Promise!!

If you are interested in purchasing any of the apparel, accessories, or fascinators shown here, send a comment or email me at littlegeneraldesigns@gmail.com! Everything shown here is available in multiple colors and sizes, and custom orders are welcome! Enjoy!

Website underway!

If you found me through FLAUNT yesterday in Reynolda Gardens, you're in the right place! Just to let you know, my website and Etsy shop are also under construction and I'm hoping to start posting my first few items within the week...

Pictures, pictures, pictures! They're coming! We had a massive photo shoot with my 12 nieces and nephews (Eeek!) last week. It's a great trade off: they get cute clothes, I get cute models. If you see anything on the children here that you like (including Fascinators and jewelry!), shoot me a post or an email at littlegeneraldesigns@gmail.com. I can do any style in any  and most sizes, so feel free to get creative if you want!

Ok. That's all for now. Getting ready for church! Come back for pictures this afternoon!!

Me.

So this is it: my first blog post...Gulp...What on earth have I got to talk about? My husband says I should talk about why people should pay attention to me, "because they should." Personally, I think he's just a little biased. In reality, I have no more entitlement to your attention than any other of those million + bloggers out there. And I would hardly call myself a writer. But here I am all the same, embarking on the same journey that so many fellow artists have begun. The Blogging World. Oh my. I suppose that since this is my first entry, I should tell you a little bit about myself, and about the point of this blog. Here goes:

My name is Gina, and I am a dancer, musician, seamstress, designer, knitter, and crafter extraordaire living in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. I love to create, and feel completely useless when I'm not making something--whatever that might be. (I've always had a hard time sticking to just one thing.) I made my first Wardolf doll at age 10, and within the year moved on to experimenting with weaving, knitting, crochet, clay bead making and quilting. Much to the bewilderment of my mother and the amusement of my father, I requested a blow torch for my 13th birthday so that I could blow my own glass beads. Low and behold I received my new fire hazard and was thrilled. (Turns out Dad's a real sucker for me. Love you, Daddy!) I embarked on many a glass blowing adventure, wearing those hideous goggles that swallowed my small, already awkward enough adolescent face. Boy I wish I had pictures. After a few close calls myself and a scorched sibbling's toe, I gave up glass blowing for something a little more docile...I'm starting to realize that if I don't skip some things I'll be writing a book, not a post, and so I'm going to fast-forward to arrive at myself today.

I'm married now to my wonderful, handsome, supportive husband, Sam. To be honest, he's the primary reason for doing this to begin with. We have a cozy (read:TINY) apartment in a beautiful neighborhood that I couldn't love more. I homeschool families in town, and create as much as I can when I'm not at work. I've decided to start selling my creations, finally, after a lot of prodding from family members and friends. And so, here you have it: The Little General. Me. I'll tell you all about it next time.
